Pigs at Dairy Barn Farm

Dairy Barn Farm specialises in the "old fashioned" breeds of pig renowned for their flavour. They include the Tamworth, British Saddleback, Gloucester Old Spot and British Lop.

These pigs are much slower maturing than the modern commercial pig and are particularly suited to traditional finishing methods. They positively enjoy being outside doing what pigs do, and produce pork which is succulent, tasty and tender with effortless crackling.

British Lop

The British Lop is the rarest of all pig breeds, originating from the Devon and Cornwall area.

Saddleback

The British Saddleback, a black pig with a white saddle across the shoulders, originated from Dorset, Hampshire and Essex.

Gloucester Old Spot

The Gloucester Old Spot is a very old breed traditionally kept in orchards in Gloucestershire, where folklore says the spots were caused by windfall apples.

Tamworth

The Tamworth is related to the old forest pigs and has a distinctive ginger colour with prick ears.

Tamspot

Our particular favourite is the "Tamspot", a combination of the Tamworth and the Gloucester Old Spot.
